The lip mucosa does not retain water as well as skin and therefore easily becomes dehydrated – ‘Lip Refresh’ has been designed to rejuvenate the lips through increased hydration – it will give improved definition, smoothness and tone without increase in volume.

‘Lip Volume’ is a filler and will enhance volume and lip line to give a fuller appearance.

The products can be used separately or together – they both contain the anaesthetic Lidocaine and our Facial Aesthetics expert, Les Bennett will normally use local anaesthetic to freeze the surrounding tissues before treatment.

And, the Good News is – even if treatments are eventually stopped, the benefits remain for many years!

Also, research shows that filler treatments using modern hyaluronic acid materials will last progressively longer between treatment sessions.

This is because the new filler is placed over an existing cushion of older filling material which acts to slow down the natural breakdown of the new layer.

Another change is about to occur at the practice. As always we are constantly striving to set constantly high standards in all areas within the practice  and so we have decided to create a completely specialised room to carry out all our cross infection and sterilisation procedures on all our instruments. The room, positioned in the heart of the practice, will be staffed full time to allow all the cleaning and sterilisation of instruments to be carried out away from areas where clinical work is performed. This is in accordance with the ‘best practice’ guidelines from the Department of Health and we hope will free up more time for our nursing staff to look after our patients needs. The works should be complete by Christmas so please feel free to ask to have a look around when you are next in.

Its the future

After a long and protracted research period the partners have chosen the eagerly anticipated new IT system at the practice. This will soon be installed and patients will all be able to benefit from our investment. The new software will allow us to spend more time with our patients and less time looking for and through paper notes. There are many new features that we hope to start to use over the next few months, including one of the most up to date digital xray systems. This will help us to not only provide the best possible care for your mouth but also show you more about what we do and how we can help you. New techniques to enhance cheeks naturally and rejuvenate skin condition.

As we age, the natural ‘padding’ of the face thins and also tends to loosen and ‘slip’ downwards.

Cheek Enhancement

Filler can now be placed in the cheeks to ‘add back volume’ and restore contours using special ‘blunt-ended’ needles that cause very little discomfort or swelling.

Skin Boosters

Filler can also be placed under the skin in tiny amounts to ‘hydrate’ the skin from the inside and promote the formation of new collagen to improve texture and elasticity.

Creams and ointments cannot deliver and maintain this deep hydration.

A new form of skin hydration using Juvéderm Hydrate

This is a new product from Allergan and is a method of re-hydrating the skin , which as we get older suffers from thinning of the underlying collagen and inability to retain water.

Juvéderm Hydrate is placed just under the skin with multiple small injections and this material then causes new collagen production and inner hydration.

To get excellent results, we would need three sessions approximately a month apart. Common areas that are treated are cheeks,  the area around the mouth and chin.

The areas are coated with anaesthetic cream and the injections are very gentle using tiny amounts of material and a very small needle. Discomfort is usually mild.

Hydration is fundamental to healthy skin tone and elasticity.  Creams can only temporarily moisturize the skin at the surface, but Juvéderm^® HYDRATE can provide the deep, lasting hydration that will give you a natural, healthy glow and through this long-term approach to skin hydration you can have results that last.

The cost of this treatment is £600 for the three sessions.

After this, only one treatment session will be needed every 6 to 12 months to ensure continual collagen production and hydration, an Allergan survey found that 95% of patients were delighted with their results.

As I have been aware of this for some time, I recently carried out a survey of clients following treatment. They were asked a number of questions and one of these was as follows:

As you can see from the responses – there is little to worry about, as I take pain relief quite seriously and several methods are used in order to ensure that the procedures are as comfortable as possible.

I recently went on a three day course in London which keeps me right up to date with everything that is going on at the moment.

The overall impression I got was that undergoing regular small procedures on the face i.e Botox and fillers, can over a period of years, produce a substantial reduction in the visible signs of ageing.

It is with great sadness that we have had to say goodbye to Oliver Bowyer from West Terrace. Oliver has been treating orthodontic cases here over the last two years but has unfortunately had to relocate to London. He continues to work at the Eastman Dental Institue and The Mayday Hospital in Croydon. He is due to be married early next year and we wish him well and thank him for his time with us.

Well Done Ladies

Well done to the ladies of West Terrace who took part in last Sunday’s race for life. Emily, Sam, Gemma, Ann, Ellie, Naomi and Jane all jogged round the 5k route in under 50mins. A huge effort anyway but especially so as the sun was definitely not shining. We are not sure how much has been raised but please watch this space. Congratulations

Congratulations to Charlotte who had her baby on Sunday 5th June. Harvey Alan Wheeler weighed in at 7lbs and 3oz and mum and baby are doing fine. We all wish them well and photo will follow.
